I added Full Moon to my list when Arina Tanemura was announced as a guest for Anime Fest 2015. This was her second time attending as a guest and I wanted a new Tanemura costume to wear. I settled on Full Moon despite some insecurities about the design. I decided to make this costume and modify it so that I would be more comfortable in it and take some artistic liberties to make it more like something a real idol would wear on stage. This lead me to design choices such as varying fabric textures and embellishments.
Construction wise this costume was fairly simple. I modified a commercial jacket pattern for the top and drafted a circle skirt for the bottom. I used a flocked taffeta as an accent fabric on the front of the jacket and as a shorter tier on the skirt. I also added it in a panel on the back of the jacket, but that’s never seen thanks to the ridiculously full wig. I used a variety of trims to accent the jacket. On the skirt I used a large piece of lace to add texture and interest. I had painted gold accents and added rhinestones to the lace to really amp up the idol feel.
To create the wig I used an Ororo and long curly clip from Arda. I cut and styled in the bangs and pull a small amount of the hair back on the main wig before clipping in the curly clip. Then I slip on what is basically a furry scrunchy.
The boot toppers attach to the base boots with magnets so they can be easily removed and the boots can be used for multiple costumes.
