Character: Super Sonico
Series: SoniAni/Nitro Plus
Version: Default
Debut: Anime Matsuri 2014

I’ve always been a fan of Super Sonico’s design and her million and one cute outfits but it was hard to motivate myself to do a costume just because I liked her look, then SoniAni came out. This anime was cute and fun to watch and gave Super Sonico the personality she needed to convince me to add her to my list!

This costume is mostly found and altered pieces which made it very simple to produce. The skirt was taken in a big and shortened. The fur trim was added. I added the same fur trim to the boots. For her headphones I had a busted pair already laying around so I took them apart to use the ear pieces and head band. I added to that with wood and tubing with wire to create her signature headphones.

For the shirt I used a few different fabric painting techniques to create the lovable tiger design. First I drew the tiger out on a sheet of card stock and then placed that under the shirt as a guide. I then hand painted all of the yellow part with Jaquard Dye-na-flo, a fabric paint usually used with resist. Once that layer was dry I went back over top and created a freezer paper stencil for the black outlines, making sure that it covered all my edges. I used black puff paint to draw the face. All of this was done on a base white t-shirt that I then altered to add the blue long sleeves and V-neck collar.

When I originally made this costume for Anime Matsuri 2014 I didn’t have time to make the tiger hoodie. I was able to go back and make it for future wear. I designed the tiger print camo and had it custom printed on spoonflower on their performance pique fabric. I have it available on spoonflower for anyone that wants to use it. I lined it with a neon orange athletic knit. The hoodie was patterned using a base commercial pattern. I drafted the hood to make sure it accommodated the headphones.

The wig is an epic cosplay Dionysus in Fusion Vanilla Pink. I razor cut the bangs and fluffed them up with a bit of hairspray.

The necklace charms were all hand sculpted out of sculpy.
