An anime about a cute dragon girl in a maid outfit? Sign me up! For Tohru’s maid outfit I made her blue maid dress, tail, horns and custom dyed a wig. The shirt was an altered thrift find I had already used for another maid, how convenient.
For the dress I started with a commercial bodice pattern and a drafted 3/4 circle skirt pattern. I altered the bodice to have the lower backline of Tohru’s (I assume to accommodate dragon wings?) and once I had a functioning mockup I figured out the strap placement and length. The dress is made of a heavy stretch suiting so I left it unlined and finished the bodice top off with a facing. I sewed the red belt detail into the waist of the dress, but the big bow attaches to the back with snaps. It is faced with stiff tule for extra structure.
The wig is an Arda base wig dip dyed in rit dyemore to create the ombre color.
The tail is stuffed with polyfil and slips onto a belt worn around the waist under the dress. The horns were made from EVA foam dowels and painted with tan Plasti-dip.
