Character: Vert Far Breton
Series: Dog Days
Version: Default
Debut: Anime Expo 2015

Vert was the second costume I completed for Anime Expo in 2015. Dog Days is a pretty under cosplayed series, so when I group started forming I jumped at the chance. A different character from this show has been on my to do list for several years, but there was no way I would have had the time to make it, so I tried to find someone that feasibly fit within my timeline and budget. Enter Vert Far Breton.

Starting with a commercial pattern as a base I constructed the top. I used heat n bond to add the green appliques and bias tapes and then top stitched everything. I used the seams from my pattern as a guide for placement. The entire top is lined. The white “undershirt” is actually a faux panel that is attached to the lining of the top. Since this was made for a summer con I wanted to cut down on the layers. The skirt is a simple pleated skirt with a ribbon detail. I used heat n bond to hold the ribbon in place, then top stitched that as well.

The ears are constructed on a headband base. I created an armature out of felt and millinery wire. I flat lined that with some pink flannel from my stash. I hand sewed the white fur onto the base and then attached those to the headband. I was also able to stitch the hair flower accessories directly onto the headband as well.

The tail is just a big circle of faux sheep fur stuffed with poly fill and stitched to a small circle felt backing. There’s a pin back attached to make it easy to put on and take off. Bunny tails are not conducive to sitting in chairs I’ve learned.
