I chose this costume as a challenge to try and use as many materials I already had on hand as possible. All of the fabric and most of the embellishments were items I had purchased previously for abandoned projects or just because they were pretty…you know how it goes. I was also able to use a wig I already had on hand.
The construction on this was fairly straight forward. The dress required a simple bodice with a multi-tier ruffled skirt. I created all of the ruffles with rolled hems and gathering on my serger. The waist cincher is a separate piece boned with industrial cable ties that closes in the front with snaps and hooks.
In keeping with the spirit of the project I opted to make boot covers for a very cheap pair of thrifted boots instead of just buying them. I used the saran wrap and tape method to create a base pattern and then used a stretch matte vinyl to make the covers.
Overall I believe I invested around $50 bucks to pull this costume together in addition to the supplies I already had on hand.
