I was invited to join a Christmas themed Sailor Scouts group for Ikkicon knocking two things off my cosplay bucket list: Cosplay from Sailor Moon and Christmas Cosplay. The group was coordinated by Sec-C cosplay.
The construction on this piece was simple but the fabrics were terrible to work with. Stretch Velour is awful, please avoid it at all costs. Of course it’s basically exactly what you want for this christmas dress aesthetic so we suffered.
The dress was a simple bodice attached to a circle skirt. Since the fabric was stretch there were no darts or seams except for the side seams. The bottom edge is trimmed in faux fir and has horse hair braid cased inside. The arm holes and neckline were finished with a cotton facing and top stitched in place using a zig zag to allow for stretch. Since these are covered by the bolero the finishing technique didn’t need to be fancy.
The bolero, hat and bow were patterned by the ladies of Sec-C and provided to the group. We used a non stretch lining for the boleros and interfaced the hat and bow.
My wig was styled by Kiya of Sec-C cosplay and is an Arda.
