This costume was created for the 2020 Crunchyroll Expo Virtual Cosplay Cup. You can watch the entry above.

The overall focus of this costume was creating an interpretation of the garment that was flattering on my adult figure while creating proportions original to the design. I also emphasized using various fabric textures to create more visual interest since the costume is mostly one color.

Before I could even begin on the dress itself I first made a custom sports bra to reduce my bust size. To help add to the illusion of creating proportions similar to the source material I wanted to de-emphasize my bust while really emphasizing the skirt and sleeves of the dress. Since this was my first time attempting to create a reduction garment I wanted to start with something pre-made for safety. I used a cotton sports bra, took it completely apart and then added an additional layer of neoprene to help with support. I also added a much thicker elastic band along the bottom.

With the foundation garment completed I was able to start on the dress. I used the commercial pattern Kwik Sew K4261 as a bodice base. I ended up changing the back of the bodice a lot but the front remained pretty true to the original. The skirt is 3 tiers of double circle skirts with yokes for the 2nd and 3rd tier to reduce bulk at the waist.

The fabrics used for this dress were primarily satin with sheer overlays on some layers for texture. In the original art this dress is all white except for the 3rd skirt tier. To add some visual interest I used layering of fabrics, laces and sequins.

The bodice is lined and flat lined with muslin for some added structure. The sleeves were flatlined with muslin and 2 layers of stiff tulle for even more structure, I really wanted to maintain that poof. The skirt tiers all have 4 inch horse hair braid sewn into them to give, you guessed it, structure. The first tier was lined and the horsehair was hand attached so there would be no visible top stitching, but since the other 2 tiers had sheer overlays I just machine stitched the braid in.

To create her one thigh high stocking I made a pair of leggings using a flesh toned mystery fabric (feels like dance tights?) and some white spandex. This makes sure that the stocking never slips and has the added bonus of allowing me to pin my garter to them if I want.

The remaining accessories were all pretty straight forward. The garters and chokers were all made by gathering ribbon and stitching it down to the hot pink fabric. The shoes were painted and the gold stars are glitter canvas attached to some clips for easy on and off.
