Kirari was my first project back in action since I finished Sakura in 2020. With no events there was little motivation, and then at the beginning of 2021 I dealt with a medical condition that drained every ounce of my soul…so I wasn’t really making anything for a while. I had planned this costume about a month before the diagnosis so I shoved everything in a box and didn’t think about it until nearly the end of the year. Lucky for me this costume was nearly perfect for easing back into sewing, cosplay and events. It was comfortable, it was low effort and I got to wear glitter tennis shoes. Past me knew what she was doing I guess.
The construction on this was simple, it was about half made from scratch and half altered pieces. The biggest effort was recreating the logo on the T-shirt. After tracing it in Illustrator I opted to have it printed on a stretch fabric from spoonflower and appliqué it to a pre-purchased t-shirt. I also illustrated the star pattern that was used to make the sock cuffs.
The skirt is a basic 2 tier circle skirt with horse hair in the hem. It has a half elastic waist and side zip closure. All pretty standard fair for me at this point. The fun part (or maybe not depending on your mood) was gluing on all of the candy, star and pearl cabochons.
I was gifted a wig by my pal Marissa which saved me a lot of time and energy. Something I’m greatful for as I was super unsure at the time how much of it I was going to have.
