I knew as soon as Uma Musume was announced I would be doomed to cosplay from it so I figured I’d just get it out of the way at Anime Expo in 2018. I chose the summer school uniform because it was simple to construct, iconic to the series and had the versatility to allow for cosplaying more girls in the future with simple accessory swaps. I also managed to convince a few others to join in so these were coordinated long distance.
The uniform top is made using a base princess seam pattern with a puff sleeve. The colors was constructed separately and attaches with snaps in the front. Matte satin was used because it offered the colors needed for the uniform and was accessible.
The skirt is a simple pleated skirt with a single layer lining attached at the waist. The satin ruffle on the bottom was made using my serger and is the same satin used in the uniform top. It attaches to the lining of the skirt. The skirt and collar were made of cotton sateen. The mix of fabric helps give the uniform more dimension.
Goldship’s main accessory is her bridal and hat. I used a faux suede for the bridal, making strips by swing the fabric to very thick interfacing. There is a small section of elastic under my chin to allow for a tight fit with mobility. The disks on either side were made using craft foam on a giant google eye base. They were sprayed with Plastidip, backed with felt and sewn to the bridal.
